SEND Groups go on a trip to Skern Lodge

15 young people from different SEND (Special educational needs & disabilities) sessions travelled to Skern Lodge in Bideford, where they took part in a range of activities:

  • High ropes

  • Archery

  • Assault course

  • Disco in the evening

Young people really benefited from being able to try new things and meeting other young people from different parts of Devon. The atmosphere was so energetic and young people really enjoyed making new friends, sharing rooms and having meals together as a group, and even going to the shop to buy gifts for their families. The sense of encouragement and cheering for each other was so present within the weekend as well as all the laughter and fun they had. All the young people have talked about wanting to do this again and asked to go for a week next time!

Young people were asked what their favourite part was:

I really liked archery, the disco and interacting with people I didn’t know. We didn’t know the other youth groups, so I got closer to the people as friends. I liked the high ropes, I haven’t done it before.

Everything! High ropes was so good as I never did it before and it’s good to try. Just generally having time away from people and getting a break, apart from the snoring it was good having chats in the room and getting to boss Jenni (Youth Worker) around.

We offer SEND sessions in three locations: Tiverton, Exmouth and Newton Abbot and we even have an online session! Find out more here.
