National Lottery Supports Social Action

Sunningmead Community Centre

We were requested by the Sunningmead Community Centre to do a 4 week sports program in the summer holidays for the newly formed youth club. Volunteers and Staff took up different sports activities and crafts. It was a very successful project engaging the young people of the nearby estate and Tiverton Youth Centres social action Volunteers.

Bucket Collection at Tiverton Town

On two occasions supported by staff, Young volunteers from the social group visited their local football club (Tiverton Town) to do a fundraising bucket collection. The funds raised from the collection bought new equipment which young people had requested and were eager to fundraise for.

Marshalling for Age UK (Big bike ride)

We were asked by Age UK Tiverton to supply marshalls for their event. On a really hot sunday, Staff and social action Volunteers marshalled stations along the route.

5th Christmas Tea 2019

This event attracted not only Age UK eldlerly users but other elderly people in the surrounding local Community, some of which hadn’t been out in months. Social action volunteers aided by staff, designed, planned and ran the successful event. We also hosted a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses with young people via letters, emails and visiting the stores. Young Volunteers decided the monies raised on the evening would be donated to CHAT the local housing charity in Tiverton.

The Impact on Tiverton Youth Club and Young People

The money provided by The National lottery Community Fund has enabled Tiverton Youth Centre to expand and grow the social actions projects and events. Young people have been supported and encouraged to participate in these. Many young people that took part have expressed how much it improved their mental health wellbeing. Working in groups have given them the skills to make new friendships be more confident and overcome social anxiety.
