Could You Be Chances New School Governor?
Ever had an idea for the school and not known how to raise it? Becoming a governor gives you a chance to influence areas that matter to you and the children in your life or the local community. Part of the role of a governor is to be a 'critical friend,' supporting the school but also challenging it and holding it accountable. Governors get to have a say in just about every aspect of how the school is run – from how much homework children get to the way bullying is handled – you'll be empowered to challenge decisions and offer your own viewpoint.
Being a governor allows you to gain a variety of new skills, and develop the ones you already have. It doesn't matter if you don't think your career experience – or lack of – is relevant to education; governing bodies need people from all backgrounds who can bring their professional knowledge to the school.
Becoming a governor can bring you great personal and professional benefits as well. Being a governor is a valuable addition to your CV, and shows future employers that you are committed to your own development. It's the perfect opportunity to make a difference.
Chances is an OFSTED registered ‘Good’ school that provides short-term alternative education provision for students who, for a range of reasons, are struggling in their mainstream school. Every decision Chances makes has the young person at the centre of it. As a governor you would be expected to support and challenge the head to ensure the school sticks to its values and continues to create an environment that supports and delivers for the children that attend.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team, to work with us as a new school governor, who is able to act as an advocate for young people at school and be their supportive voice. As a governor you will be a volunteer who makes vital contributions to the success of Chances. If you are passionate about making a difference and would like to gain new experiences and skills, I would encourage you to join us on this journey.
“Being a Governor at Chances is a rewarding and worthwhile experience; our role is to work together with staff to ensure a positive impact on the students at Chances.
